Regurgitation 101

Posted : 1 year, 9 months ago on 3 February 2008 06:30 (A review of "American Gladiators")

I never believed the promos, "This isn't your parent's galdiators!!!" referring that its a vast departure from that cheesy 80s show with the same name.

I went out of my way to avoid this show, and after accidentally being exposed to a whole 20 minutes of it last night, I'd like to dispute their sales pitch... ummm, yes, yes it is in fact EXACTLY like that cheezy 80s show. just because you claim it isn't doesn't mean it really isn't, because I'm old enough to remember the first time it was on TV, and much like electro-shock therapy, you tend to remember the horrible things you were forced to watch back then. Heck, most of the gladiators appear to be in their 40s and are probably the exact same gladiators used in the first show. and did I miss something, but since when did Hulk Hogan become popular again? I see his wrinkled up senior-citizen face in yellow spandex all over my tv screen, promoting this show, and he also seems to be on his own personal reality show everytime I flip the channel. Is the writer's guild strike affecting the studios so bad that they bring dinosaurs out of retirement to subject us to this torture? If that's the case, please give the writers' ALL DEMANDS THEY ASK FOR! if they demand a million each per episode, so be it. small price to pay to make these pathetic shows vanish.

My rating for this keeps dropping

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 5 October 2007 11:57 (A review of Family Guy)

I view seasons 1 thru 3 as 10/10, 4 maybe a solid 7 out of 10, but 5 and 6 and onwards? what the hell?!? even the bloody stale SIMPSONS are giving us more 'fresh' material these days.

Did anyone see the latest episode, the one with Brian moving in with his blonde girlfriend? WTF?? I honestly didn't find a single joke in the entire episode, except for the ongoing novel joke at the end credits. the rest of it was such garbage. And i noticed they don't do any more of their signature 'flashbacks' that usually had the best lines. now it feels like a bloody soap opera! son gets job. daughter is jealous. dog moves in with gf. they have relationship issues. they break up. ugh! what the hell? did Family Guy lose all their writers recently?

I was a big supporter to have the show brought back to life both times Fox canceled it early on in its life, but now I'm about ready to beg Fox to kill the show already. its dead, PUT IT OUT OF ITS MISERY PLEASE!

lame and unfunny

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 5 October 2007 11:52 (A review of "American Dad!")

lame and unfunny. that's all this show is. launched by the same people that brought the hilarious Family Guy to us, this show was pathetic from day 1. gay alien, chauvinistic dad, annoying mom & daughter, nerdy son. what the hell is the appeal? none of the jokes delivered, a couple of odd ones may have made me crack a smile, but thats it. and last 2 seasons (i can't believe this crap is still on air) have been even worse.

and by a coincidence, ever since this show started to air, the awesomeness of Family Guy has been slowly declining, and this season, FG is utter shit (see my FG review for more).

Brilliant spin-off from Daily Show

Posted : 2 years, 3 months ago on 7 August 2007 07:52 (A review of The Colbert Report)

A mock-style show that pokes fun at politics and mainly the far-right talk shows like Bill O'Reilly, and it works like magic. Colbert is a genius, exposing the hypocracy of the right wing neo-cons by acting like one himself. He hates gays because they are always trying to make him gay by tempting him with their hot bodies, he hates mexicans and illegal aliens but gets all his gardening and housework done by his mexican workers at home, he hates evolution theory because its promoted by a bunch of monkeys, he loves his SUVs, he believes Global Warming is caused by Al Gore's hot air, he supports his president no matter what, wants to invade every other country, Jesus is the one true religion and everyone else is going to hell, he's a big ego-maniac, and absolutely hates bears for they are godless killing machines.

I think it's a lot more fun-natured then the Daily Show, which makes it a perfect watch to help unwind after some of the gloomy revelations on Jon Stewart's show, but the amount of irony and satire in Colbert Report is just brilliant and so well written. The only slight flaw in the show is that when he brings on a neo-con author or think tank, interviews can get a bit awkward, but it's hard to interview a neo-con while 'acting' to be one yourself and also try to throw in a few ironic zingers in there to show the flaws in the guests' way of thinking, and to do that all on-the-fly. When he interviews liberal guests, its a lot more fun, as he just butts heads with them with the cheesiest arguments that neo-cons typically use, and it comes off very well to expose their hypocracy.

Brilliant, very intelligent show. Some of the more simple minded viewers simply won't understand what he's trying to do with his reverse-psychology style of show, but that's ok, since the show is not for them anyways. They can just switch over to Jay Leno and listen to Osama and Michael Jackson jokes and look at misprinted newspaper clippings and laugh silly.

cute, but awful message

Posted : 2 years, 4 months ago on 25 July 2007 09:38 (A review of "Bob the Builder")

When you're a kid, it's one of the only times in your life you can dream to be a pilot or an astronaut or some other high profile person and get away with it.

so why are these new kid shows teaching them to shoot for the stars... and become a construction worker? woooooo..

and it teaches such great life lessons to kids.. like 'don't be late on a project', and 'if you take shortcuts, your work will collapse and you'll have to re-do it' .. oh, and 'teamwork'... all valuable lessons on a 3 year old. haha

pure TV shit

Posted : 2 years, 5 months ago on 15 June 2007 10:12 (A review of The Surreal Life)

this is what happens if you have Entertainment Weekly, Jerry Springer, and Big Brother, and put them thru a blender.

Pure 100% TV crap. This show is a key factor when I decided to cancel my Cable TV and go and live a TV-free life.

nothing but a bunch of washed-up has beens, stupid fake drama-queens (come on, their ACTORS, you think the 'stories' of love, forgiveness, etc, are REAL? shake your f*'n head if you do), mixed in with a overly generous helping of the marketing ploy 'Sex Sells!'

Used to love it, but now i hate it

Posted : 2 years, 6 months ago on 8 May 2007 11:40 (A review of Family Guy)

It used to be my favorite show, but lately, it's jumped the shark and nobody seems to notice the show is beginning to stink like a rotting piece of fish.

Same jokes, same jokes, same jokes. AAARGHH!!! i loved the first few seasons coz of all the original puns and jokes they threw at us, but now its like 'oh, the Peter vs Chicken fight was funny and well received in a previous episode, so i know, lets re-use it and make them keep fighting for almost 10 minutes out of our 22 minute long show. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!.... not...

Give us FRESH jokes, please.

The latest (9th) seasons is one of the b

Posted : 2 years, 6 months ago on 8 May 2007 11:36 (A review of Top Gear)

If you get a chance, try to find this show if its now shown on your Cable line-up. Look around on the net for episodes if you have to, because this show is just amazing. Yes, it's a car show, but one that even my wife loves to watch and we both laugh through it. You really got to give them credit, for making a CAR SHOW appeal to both motorheads as well as their wives/girlfriends, and to throw so much humour in each episode is quite incredible too. The recent special when they went to Miami and bought 3 cars for under $1,000 each and drove it across 4 states is a gem. At times, it even had a documentary / Borat-style mockumentary feel to it, exposing many elements of society of the deep south of the US of A.

Highly Recommended Viewing. A+++

Classic cash-cow

Posted : 2 years, 10 months ago on 19 January 2007 06:50 (A review of Frosty the Snowman)

The Rankin/Bass team brought us the amazing Rudolph Red-Nosed Reindeer, as well as special gems such as Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Little Drummer Boy, and Nestor the Long-Eared Donkey, but I think "Frosty the Snowman" is just a holiday cash-cow they rushed thru. First off, where is that beautiful puppet/stop-motion animation found on most other Rankin/Bass TV specials? Instead, we have a cheaply-animated cartoon, using many repetitve scenes and frames, and the story is so weak and cheezy the only thing this has going for it is the catchy tune. But even that, I can remember most of other songs from other Rankin/Bass specials, but this one, I only remember the Frosty song. I'm not a 100% positive, but I think its the only one in the show, repeated over 3 or 4 times throughout. Pure laziness with a holiday-season cash-cow stench to it.

Bah! Humbug!

A nice christmas gem

Posted : 2 years, 10 months ago on 19 January 2007 06:37 (A review of The Little Drummer Boy)

Following in the puppet/stop-motion animation of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer comes this story set in Palestine during the birth of Christ, and deals with crooks, child exploitation, and ends at the stable in Bethlehem. For kids, it's a bit hard to watch and understand, but it's worth a watch during the holidays mostly because of the main song, which I believe is the version sung by the Vienna Choir Boys.
